Customers arrive in with their family pet and your job is to make that pet look as fabulous as possible.
This course will give you the basic skills required to start grooming. You will learn about the different coat types, how to wash and dry them correctly safely for both yourself and the dog in your care. You will learn the 4 steps necessary to create a beautifully groomed dog on the variety of breeds we see in the salon. You will also experience:
- de-matting of long haired breeds
- nail trimming
- ear plucking and cleaning
- eye care
- anal gland expression
- parasite recognition and treatment
- cleaning genital areas
- various methods of bathing
- various methods of drying
- methods of undercoat removal, and how to reduce shedding
Grooming is hard work and can be quite physically demanding. You will need to be able to ‘read’ your dogs body language to determine how to handle each and every dog as well as moving them safely around the salon during the grooming process.
The Introductory week gives you an excellent insight to life as a groomer before committing to a longer, much more expensive course. After completion, any students that book the iPET Level 3 Diploma within 12 months will receive a discount from their Diploma fee.
